Summary

The Longer Orange 10 is an entry-level SLA resin 3D printer that impresses with its high-quality construction and incredibly detailed prints. If you’re after a resin printer in this price range, there’s no much that will beat it

4.2

The Longer Orange 10 is the latest in an array of entry-level LCD resin 3D printers to be released this year.

The level of detail you can achieve on your prints is nothing short of spectacular. If you’re used to an FDM printer then the quality of the prints from the Orange 10 will blow you away!

In this review, I’ll go through the full range of specs and features on the Orange 10 and let you know some of its pros and cons so you can decide if it’s the right 3D printer for you.

Features

For an entry-level DLP 3D printer, the Orange 10 comes loaded with an array of features. Here are some of the main highlights:

  • Uniquely designed optical paths that help to achieve uniform light distribution and intensity. This, in turn, plays a key role in improving overall print quality.
  • The Orange 10 comes equipped with a fast propriety slicer. The slicer is provided directly by the manufacturer and is said to be at least 30 times faster than most open-source slicers available in the market. The slicer is also pre-configured already, so there’s no need to spend too time setting it up.
  • Strong solid metal construction for accuracy, longevity, and durability. Other than the acrylic top, everything else underneath the printer is made with sturdy metal including the build plate and the vat.
  • Lightweight compared to other printers in its category. At just 10 lbs, you can move it from one place to the next with ease.
  • 2.8-inch touchscreen for all the controls making it easier to adjust printer settings before and during printing.
  • High-temperature warning function to enhance its overall safety. The printer will pause automatically if it detects temperature build-up. It will then resume automatically when the unit cools off. This helps to prevent failed prints,  keep it safe and also prolongs its longevity.

All of these features add up to make the Orange 10 equipped to deliver precise printing, faster printing speeds, faster curing speeds, and easy operation.

Pros

  • Strong and sturdy construction improve accuracy and reduce the need for calibration
  • Features a fast proprietary slicer nearly 30 times quicker than your average open source slicer

  • Resin is included

Cons

  • Requires manual leveling
  • The slicer GUI looks relatively basic and unappealing

Unboxing

The Orange 10 comes with very durable packaging and removing it from the box is easy. There are a host of accessories to look out for in the package.

First, the manufacturer gives you a 250 ml bottle of resin so that you can start to print right away. You will also get a pair of gloves to handle the resin, one steel scraper, one power adapter, and an assortment of tools to use. Additionally, the unit features two filter funnels, one release film, and a single TF card.

Setup

Setting up the Orange 10 is not that hard although it will require some initial calibration. Unlike some higher-end printers in the market, the Orange 10 does not offer automatic leveling. Additionally, the printer does not come pre-assembled. This means that you will need to manually level the platform.

Although at first, this may sound like a hassle, it’s not such a bad thing. Manual leveling allows you to better customize your printer based on your preferences. We have also seen so many cases where beginners have had issues using the automatic leveling feature offered by high-end brands because it doesn’t work correctly.

Most people who have bought the Orange 10 can level the platform in less than 15 minutes. Loading the resin into the vat should also be easy especially for people who already have some experience working with resin-based printers.

However, if you are new to this, it is always important to be cautious and avoid any spills. Printing with resin can be messy and hazardous, so make sure you use the gloves provided before decanting the resin.

In Use

The Orange 10 comes with a 2.8-inch touch screen control that doesn’t feel cluttered and is easy to navigate. All your settings are in one place and can easily be selected before and during printing.

The Orange 10 also uses proprietary slicing software called Longerware, which has been developed by the manufacturer. The software reportedly slices 30 times faster than the average open source slicing software options in the market. Although I have not tested the accuracy of this claim, from the reviews we have seen so far it may be true.

You will also love the user interface on this unit. The Orange 10   is built to be an engaging printer that is so easy to interact with.

Even if you are a beginner, you can set it up in a few minutes and start printing right away. After all, you already get a bottle of resin as part of the deal. T

he only downside with this unit is the noise. Even though most entry-level 3D printers are not known for their quiet operation, we found that the Orange 10   is relatively noisier compared to other units in this category.

Print Quality

Just like most resin-based printers, the detailing and quality of the print from the Orange 10 are very impressive. If you are used to FDM printing then the quality of these resin prints will blow you away!

While it may not rival the kind of quality produced by industrial 3D printers, it gets remarkably close and is more than good enough for most detailed applications like miniatures and jewelry.

The printer features a layer height of between 0.02 – 0.1 mm which means it can replicate fine details like facial features on 28mm miniatures perfectly.

It is also important to note that the Orange 10 comes with special optical paths designed to achieve uniform light distribution and intensity. This feature enhances the overall print quality significantly compared to similarly priced printers.

Limitations

Despite its great features, the Orange 10 is not 100% full proof. This unit also has a few limitations that you will have to deal with. First, the printer can overheat when used on consecutive long prints, especially in a warm environment. What makes this an issue is the fact that the Orange 10 has a sensor system that will stop printing if it detects high-temperature build up. The printer will only restart printing once it is cooled down to the required levels. Even though this feature helps to keep it safe, it can reduce your printing efficiency if you want to print many large objects consecutively.

Customer Service

If you’re buying the Orange 10 you will be happy to know that the manufacturer offers lifetime technical support for this model. If you run into any issues, you can call them and see if you get a solution. There is also a 12-month machine warranty for the printer that covers you in case of any unforeseen breakdowns to the product.

Verdict

There are a number of good entry-level resin 3D printers available now. However, the Longer Orange 10 is one of the more affordable units and it does give you great value for money.

With relatively better print quality, a sturdy metal design, and fast proprietary slicing software, the Orange 10 is does deliver the perfect user experience. We also loved that the printer has a high-temperature warning as part of its safety features. It’s a great 3D printer, especially for people who love to print detailed prints like miniature figurines and jewelry.
